Why is JavaScript needed to download a file?

Neocities only allows sites to host essential web files, like HTML and JavaScript files. Normally, this would prevent having a download for the full source of a website (Clojure scripts & GIMP projects are not considered "essential web files," for example).

To work around this limitation, this page has an auto-generated JavaScript program which will generate the site source in your browser's memory and then allow you to download it.

As this site is free software, you're welcome to inspect the source and study how this generation system works. Here's the unminified, human readable script if you'd like to study it.
